The
first generation of Legacy's boasted bold styling and practical
performance in both sedan and wagon platforms. During this time,
all wheel drive was still an option and not standard in the Legacy.
Both the wagon and sedan where available in power plants of a flat
4 cylinder, 2.2 liter 16 valve, Overhead Cam Boxer engine with Sequential
Multi-port fuel injection, 130 hp @ 5600 rpm, torque 137@4400 rpm,
Distributorless electronic ignition, and a turbo-charged version
of the same engine that upped the HP and torque numbers to160 and
181, respectively.
